Social Status of Project Community
1. Children in 3-10 years age group were deeply involved in goat rearing in forest and they enjoyed to play with cattle 80 per cent children in 3-6 years age group are attending ECCD/ ICDS/other schools for pre-primary education
2. Children of the project area always feared the outside people Children are now bold, fearless and explore their views and are not afraid of outsiders
3. Children were highly hesitant and shy and were unable to talk to others Now 60 per cent children are bold and they freely talk to others
4. Children in 7-10 years age group suffered from inferiority complex Children attending primary schools after pre-primary schools such as ECCD show superior mental and educational status
5. Only 5 per cent girls were going to schools and the rest were engaged in house hold chores Now more than 75 per cent girls are attending school and in their spare time cooperate in household chores
6. Baptism was not followed among the children at the time of their birth Now the family members are aware of the date of birth of their children and have begun baptising their children at the time of birth
7. The girls were disadvantaged from food, clothing and other facilities available with the family The family members now give priority to the promotion of girls rights such as good education, good nutrition, good care and other kinds of facilities. This is helping in the development of the girls, particularly their skills and health
8. Only 2-10 per cent children used to go to schools for education

Now more than 90 per cent children are attending the schools:

  • 40 per cent children are regular and closely involved with education
  • 50 per cent children are involved in education along with other kind of household activities
9. 80 per cent children were engaged in child labour earlier

Now the child labour is decreasing:

  • 20 per cent children are still directly involved in child labour
  • 30 per cent children are taking education and rest of the time they work for wages
10. The role of panchayati raj institutions was very weak in socioeconomic issues Now panchayat representatives are active and they are taking interest in intervention for their socioeconomic issues
11. Seasonal migration was up to 80 per cent With the project interventions and LEEP support, seasonal migration has been reduced to just 10 per cent
12. Quarrelling and gambling Now the quarrelling and gambling has been reduced to just 10 per cent of the earlier
13. 80 per cent families lived with their livestock and had no knowledge to keep livestock away from their dwellings Now the families keep livestock and pets away from their dwellings
Social Status of Women
1. Women did not know how to wear civilised clothes Now the women are being civilised and they are developing culture of dressing up in a civilised manner
2. They had long veils and used to hide in their homes seeing outsiders and could not express their feelings and ideas before them Now women have removed their long veils and began to participate in the activities addressing their issues and to share their ideas
3. Women were not recognised with their names and their husbands also did not know the names of their wives Now the women are aware of their names and their family members can also tell their names without any hesitation
4. Women had no knowledge about workload and wages Now the women are fully aware of their work, rights, time duration and wage rates
5. Women were malnourished and they did not know the importance of nutritive foods Now the women understand risk of malnutrition along with quality and importance of nutritive foods
6. Women were superstitious about immunisation and they practiced witchcraft Now the women are participating in immunisation activities and aware of their importance. They have given up witchcraft
7. Women used knife for cutting umbilical chord and applied ash on cut chord as per tradition Now the women are aware with the safe delivery system with support from trained dais (traditional birth attendants), ANM and given up traditional system
Literacy in Livelihood and Qualitative Life
1. Earlier 90 per cent women were illiterate Now more than 40 per cent women are literate and participating in village level educational and health activities. Self help groups have become priority for them. They want knowledge of government programmes and rights for them
2. 90 per cent women and 70 per cent men had poor living status and quality of life About 60 per cent families have good knowledge of issues like safe drinking water, sanitation. child survival, personal hygiene, cleaning habits, etc.
3. They were not sensitive towards local resources Now the community has begun to think of the importance of local resources. 150 families have taken initiatives for increasing soil moisture and water recharging through water management system and impact is that some families have raised their first crop on their agricultural land, which was otherwise almost barren. Self-reliance approaches are being accepted by the target groups and every family has self-respect
4. Education was not a priority of their life Now education is a priority of the families, though it is still not the first priority. Every family wants to admit its children to the ECCD centre and primary school run under the project. Women are demanding education for themselves
5. They were not aware of resources for income generation Now they have knowledge about the income generation resources and begun to generate their income through animal husbandry, agriculture development and other kind of micro enterprise development and small industrial promotion
6. Project area people had low skill and cadre status Now the skill and cadre of the community is developed through various training, workshops, meetings and linkages with government schemes and project welfare services
Social Status of Health
1. IMMR was 400 per thousand Now it is 17 per thousand
2. MMR was 350 per lakh Now it is 11 per lakh
3. There was a lack of health facilities in the project area

Health facilities have been set up in the project area with government support and project interventions:

  • Set up linkages with government primary health centres
  • Set up safe delivery centre with the support of project in the middle of the project area in Vinoba Nagar
  • Set up an adolescent centre for health education
  • Set up one care centre for physicaly challenged
